Come See Our Classic Car Transmission Repair and Auto Restoration Skills!
Thurston County Transmission recently took on a very exciting classic car transmission repair. Our crew restored a 1959 Ford Thunderbird, a classic with over 50 years of grease and oil buildup, rust, transmission wear and more.
This whole engine was a mess. However, classic car restoration is exciting enough that we immediately dug in, cleaned it up and got this baby back in showroom condition!
As these photos show, classic car transmission repairs take a lot of work. Experience matters when working with any classic car, especially since most of the original equipment manufacturer parts, or OEM, have not been made in decades. The Thurston County Transmission team knows their way around classic transmissions and engines, however, so the first step was coming up with a precise plan of attack for the T-Bird.
Classic car transmission repair checklist for 1959 Ford Thunderbird:
- Rebuilt the cast iron Cruise-o-matic transmission
- Modified the valve body
- Updated front and rear engine seals from rope seals to rubber
- Updated rear differential from leather seals to rubber
- Cleaned the oil pan, valve cover and front cover
(required paint removal, glass beading and new coats of paint)
All of this work had three important results. First, the restoration enhanced the overall performance of the T-Bird. Second, several design issues that classic cars deal with were resolved by changing out antiquated parts for more practical modern options. Finally, and most importantly, we met a client’s need.
They actually yelled “WOOHOO!” when they saw the restored engine! Client satisfaction makes all the grease and sweat worthwhile.
